My Coaching Values & Mission
I believe in the power of ordinary people achieving extraordinary things through consistency, belief, and smart training.
As an athlete myself, I’ve been doing road races for the last 30 years — Comrades (3 times) and marathons in the 3:15 to 3:25 range — so I understand firsthand what it takes to perform, persist, and push through. But it’s not just about chasing fast times. It’s about the journey, the discipline, and the growth that comes with every step.
My mission is to help experienced, as well as first-time and developing marathoners become confident, well-prepared athletes. I provide practical pacing strategies, honest feedback, and genuine emotional support to help each person reach their potential — whether that means finishing their first 42.2 km or running their strongest Comrades.
I coach people, not just runners.
From Angelique and Sue to Lydia, Etienne, Musa, Reginald, Steve and Francois, I’ve had the privilege of mentoring runners through their first marathons and onward to longer, tougher goals. Every athlete is different, and I tailor my encouragement and guidance to suit each personality — whether that means helping someone bounce back from disappointment or pushing through mental blocks.
I'm also deeply committed to the broader running community — from race directing the MiWay Wally Hayward Marathon to building a club culture where runners support and inspire one another.
At the heart of everything I do are the values of:
-
Consistency over chaos
-
Integrity over ego
-
Development over shortcuts
I don’t chase hype. I build humans. And I’ll be in your corner every step of the way.
